Apple Releases New iPods

Rumors of new iPods appearing today proved to be correct, for the most part. Today Apple significantly updated the iPod line with changes to the available configurations of iPods, iPod minis, and iPod photos.

The iPod mini: The previous mini, the 4GB unit (1000 songs), dropped in price to $199 to make way for a new 6GB unit (1500 songs) that retails for $249. The new minis are available in blue, pink, green, and silver. The control icons on the click wheel now match the case color.

The iPod photo: The previous low-end iPod photo, the 40GB unit, was dropped from the lineup to make way for the new, less expensive 30GB unit that sits at the $349 price point. The 60GB unit has dropped $150 in price to $449.

The "standard" iPod: The high end 40GB iPod has been removed from the lineup, leaving only the svelt 20GB unit which maintains its previous $299 price point.

  • 512MB iPod Shuffle (120 songs) - $99
  • 1GB iPod shuffle (240 songs) - $149
  • 4GB iPod mini (1000 songs) - $199
  • 6GB iPod mini (1500 songs) - $249
  • 20GB iPod (5000 songs) - $299
  • 20GB iPod U2 Special Edition (5000 songs) - $349
  • 30GB iPod photo (7500 songs) - $349
  • 60GB iPod photo (15000 songs) - $449
