Apple has never offered an iPod SDK for those looking to develop custom iPod apps. With the introduction of the first, new iPod games sold through the iTunes Store, we wondered if a games SDK of sorts had been put together, available to prospective developers. It seems this is not the case.
A user e-mailed Apple, inquiring into the availability of iPod developer information. An excerpt from Apple's response: Please know that, at this time, we have no plans to offer an SDK for the iPod. We have, however, posted documentation on using the "NotesOnly" mode, also called Museum Mode, which allows you to create custom or restricted user interfaces for special purposes. This is available for download from our iPod Developer web page:

Among other things, he found that the .IPG file is simply a ZIP archive and that the enterprising user can fairly easily hack certain aspects of a game. See the user's post for more information.
