A month's blood, sweat, and hacking by a particular crew of iPod Hackers has brought iPod Classic to iPod Video v1.0. The hack in question is a modified version of the (older) iPod Video's firmware modified in order to look as close as possible to the firmware of the new iPod Classic. The Now Playing screen has been redesigned, menus split, and a mini Now Playing on every menu. Welcome to your new iPod. The industrious developers responsible for this achievement are: bounci.rabbit.123, H3X, vettefan, matthew98, supernatural, saXas, and xxDriveNxx.  The project site provdes separate downloads for the 5th-generation and 5.5th-generation iPods.
While hacking your iPod thus is obviously taking on some risk, reports indicate that "bricking" your iPod seems rather unlikely. Good luck!
