Apple and the iPod / iPhone were the tech cool of the cool as the sun rose over the oceanside Outer Banks vacation cottage in which I woke this morning. At 10 AM Pacific, they just shattered the ceiling of awesomeness. Sophomoric terms to describe the new iPod lineup, but more elegant verbiage somehow just doesn't seem to capture it.
Apple has rolled out three new iPod lines (more or less). They are all lustworthy in every respect. Let's have a look. iPod nano
At today's Apple event the immensely popular iPod nano saw both a dramatic feature upgrade as well as an equally dramatic reduction in size. The features are as follows. - Small, small, small
- All metal in silver, light blue, teal, green, and (RED)
- New user interface (previously leaked) incuding Cover Flow
- Capable of video playback like previous 5G iPod
- 2-inch 320x240 pixel screen - super high pixel density
- 24 hours audio / 5 hours video playback per charge
- Nike+ compatible
- 4GB (1,000 songs) = $149, 8GB (2,000 songs) = $199
- Ships today
iPod classic
The 5G iPod is now the 6G and is known as the iPod classic. A welcome nomenclature adjustment, to be sure. It's features follow. - Similar dimensions to previous 5G iPod
- 40 hours audio / 7 hours video playback
- 80GB (20,000 songs) = $249, 160GB (40,000 songs) = $349
iPod touch
And this is the iPod eveyone's been waiting for...for years. It's an iPhone...without the phone. The iPod touch. But WiFi is still there! Have a look. - Basically an iPhone minus the phone
- Thinner than the iPhone - 8mm thick
- Same touch interface as the iPhone
- Includes CoverFlow
- Same 3.5" screen as iPhone
- WiFi - 80211b/g included
- Supports rotational landscape mode (like iPhone)
- Mobile Safari web browser included
- YouTube's there too
- 22 hours audio / 5 hours video playback per charge
- 8GB (2,000 songs) = $299, 16GB (4,000 songs) = $399
- Ships this month
This really is an outstanding update to the iPod lineup. The appeal of the iPod is stronger than ever and we're not sure how anyone that might've been on the fence as far as choosing between an iPod and a competing player could possibly look anywhere but Apple.
What more could users want? Bravo, Apple!
