Apple Announces iPhone, iPod Touch Software Updates   

Steve Jobs announced the release of the aforementioned iPhone Software 1.1.3 update at today's Macworld San Francisco 2008 keynote address.

 
Apple Announces iTunes Movie Rentals, Apple TV Take 2   

Apple has partnered with Touchstone, Mirimax, Lionsgate, Newline, Fox, MGM, Warner Bros., Disney, Paramount, Sony and Universal to bring movie rentals to Macs, PCs, iPods, iPhones, and Apple TVs through the iTunes Store. Rentals go for $2.99 for current/older movies and $3.99 for new releases at DVD quality. 1000 movies are available at launch in this format. Rented movies will be available 30 days after the DVD release of a film and a user has 30 days in which to start watching the film and 24 hours to complete the viewing once started. With a broadband connection, there is only a 30 second lag before viewing can begin once purchased.

 
Countdown To Keynote: Macworld San Francisco 2008   

Today marks the beginning of the Macworld Expo 2008 held in San Francisco's Moscone Center. This blessed, week-long event comes but once a year and is Apple's primary launch venue for significant new products and technologies.

 
The First iPhone Virus Arrives   

Targeting only "jailbroken" iPhones (which have been modified to allow the installation of third-party applications), this trojan masquerades as an update Erica's Utilities and is named "113 prep." Simply running the application causes no harm - it simply prints the word "shoes" to the screen. Uninstalling the application, however, removes certain files from the iPhone's /bin directory, making it impossible for various applications to function correctly.

 
Apple Files Patent For OLED-Display Keyboard   

A keyboard that can change its layout on demand allows for key arrangements specifically catered to the application currently in focus. Switch to the next app and the keyboard layout changes. This is an obvious interface win, but what we're far more excited about is the "fun" potential of such a device.
